The 2018 Porta 6 Red from Vidigal Wines needs a bit of time to open up but then reveals pleasant aromas of strawberry, blackberry, cranberry and mint with a hint of cinnamon.
Tasting shows lots of berry fruit punch flavors in this medium-bodied wine. It still goes down easy and smooth but seems a bit sweeter and more one-dimensional as compared to past vintages and is lacking the spice component. It ends with lingering sweet fruit notes on the long finish.
The last time we reviewed this wine we referred to it as one of those legendary Trader Joe's values. While still worth the price we wouldn't place it in that category any longer, but that's part of the deal with a wine this inexpensive, it's hard to maintain that same level of quality vintage to vintage (especially if the wine gets popular and the production goes up).
