Ravines Dry Riesling and White Springs Vineyard Dry Riesling Reviews

Today we’ve got an excellent pair of 100% estate grown Riesling from the Finger Lakes of New York State.

Up first we’ve got the 2017 Ravines Dry Riesling which comes from two vineyards (52% White Springs Vineyard and 48% 16 Falls Vineyard), one on each side of Seneca Lake. The wine was aged in stainless steel tanks and has 3 g/L of residual sugar.

Sample submitted for review. The Ravines Riesling has an SRP of $19 but is available for as low as $14. 6,000 cases were produced.

From the bottle:

Ravines Wine Cellars rests on a hillside overlooking glacier-carved Seneca Lake in the Finger Lakes wine region of New York State. Our cool growing season, sloped vineyard sites and moderating effects of the deep lakes create ideal conditions for producing vibrant, balanced and food-friendly wines.

We are a small, family-owned winery dedicated to the craft of fine, classical winemaking, wines that express the unique qualities of the vineyard sites, the growing season, and the wine maker’s vision.

Ravines Riesling is grown in limestone and shale stone soils on the steep slopes surrounding the Finger Lakes. It is an elegant, dry style with delicate aromatics, distinct minerality and a bright acidity.

Produced and Bottled by Ravines Wine Cellars
12.5% Alcohol

The 2017 Ravines Dry Riesling opens with aromas of apple, pear, nectarine, a little lime and a little flinty minerality. It’s a very nice, classic Riesling aroma.

The wine tastes wonderful in the mouth and has great depth of flavor on the fruit in this very dry wine. Featuring a lovely mouthfeel and similar flavors to the nose this wine is good with food and has good aging potential making it really wonderful at this price.

It ends crisp, zesty, dry and long on the lip-smackingly good finish.

The 2017 Ravines White Spring Vineyard Riesling tastes similar to the dry but has a touch of petrol and white floral notes on the nose too.

In the mouth it’s just a bit more expressive in the fruit and the mouthfeel is just lovely. Full of zesty lemon and lime, the fruit flavors go deep. This is delicious!

It ends with a long, lingering finish that leaves lots of lip-smacking tart and juicy fruit on your lips.
