(This is mostly Wahluke Slope fruit but below the 85% required to be labeled as such.) The wine was aged in a combination of French and American oak.

From the bottle:

Together, we are a perfect union of blended character. Our shared language — a nod of the head, a gentle gesture. Our shared currency — enduring loyalty. Joyously inseparable, silent in our companionship, because everything we could ever imagine is already expressed between us.

Just like the Luke Cabernet Sauvignon and Luke Merlot we previously reviewed, today we’ve got another excellent one from Luke Wines.

The 2018 Luke The Companion Red Blend begins with a fresh and intoxicating aroma of blackberry, black cherry, plum and raspberry with spice and a little vanilla as well.

The wine tastes bright and absolutely delicious. Featuring a silky smooth mouthfeel, juicy fruit flavors that last and last and a wonderful combination of fruit and spice, this is tremendously good stuff. It doesn’t usually work this way with red blends but this one really seems to take on the best of all 3 varieties.

It ends dry, a bit grippy and extremely long and it was just as good on day 2. Wonderfully balanced and just a joy to drink, this a wine to buy cases of if you can find it.
