Aldi Specially Selected Douro Reserva Review

Last Updated on March 4, 2026

A smooth, soft, crowd-pleasing red blend, we review the Specially Selected Douro Reserva from Aldi.

Aldi Specially Selected Douro Reserva Review

A blend of unspecified varieties (or maybe not, more on that below) from Portugal that is aged in oak casks for 12 months.

When we say unspecified we mean that neither the label nor Aldi disclose the blend. That said, the producer of this wine, Van Zeller Wine Collection, has a long history in Portugal and number of brands under its umbrella.

One of those brands is Feuerheerd’s which has a suspiciously similar Douro Reserva with the same bottle wrap, the same DMFC/Anchor graphic on the label and even the same “A handmade gift from…” tag on the neck that we found on our bottle from Aldi:

Feuerheerd's Douro Reserva

That wine is a blend of Tempranillo, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional so we suspect that same here.

The Specially Selected Douro Reserva is available exclusively at Aldi and sells for just $9.99. It is imported by Prestige Beverage Group

Our family has been crafting exceptional wines since 1620, tradition passed down throughout fifteen generations. The rich legacy of winemaking expertise is beautifully embodied in this elegant red wine from the Douro region. Aged for 12 months in oak casks, Specially Selected Douro DOC Reserva offers rich flavors of blackberry and redcurrant, enhanced subtle notes of spice and a long, velvety finish. Perfectly paired with roasted meats, lasagna, pizza, cheeses or enjoyed on its own.

PRODUCED AND BOTTLED BY: VAN ZELLER WINE COLLECTION SA
13.5% Alcohol

The 2022 Specially Selected Douro Reserva opens with an attractive, cohesive aroma of blackberry and assorted red berries plus spice and touches of licorice and cola.

The wine tastes smooth, soft and perhaps slightly sweet and is very easy to drink. This is a crowd pleasing blend featuring similar flavors to the nose.

It ends dry, soft and long. This is quite a nice little blend, it’s hard to imagine not liking this one. It was just as good on day 2.
