We first offered this wine back in March and gave it a very high score of 9 on our Taste rating scale, which corresponds to 91-93 points on the traditional 100-point scale. At the time, it didn't have any other outside ratings. In September; however, Wine Enthusuast apparently agreed with our assessment, giving this 2019 vintage 92 points.
It's not often you get to taste a single variety Semillon (sem-ee-yon) aged in (neutral) oak -- although to be fair, as is common in France, this one also has a little Sauvignon Blanc blended in.
And it's definitely not every day you get to taste one that is as delicious as this dry example from Washington State where there are only about 100 acres planted (despite the fact that this can be a great spot for it).
The Amavi Cellars Semillon is 85% Semillon and 15% Sauvignon Blanc from estate vineyards in the Walla Walla Valley (59% Les Collines, 19% Goff, 17% Seven Hills East and 5% Summit View). The wine is aged in 100% neutral French oak.

Just 1,271 cases of the 2019 Amavi Semillon were produced and it is made in the dry style (this is not a sweet dessert wine like you find in Sauternes).

The 2019 Amavi Cellars Semillon begins with a really lovely, enticing floral aroma of honeysuckle, melon and a touch of tropical fruit. It even has a bit of the waxiness (often described as beeswax) that is common to this variety and a touch of spice, which struck me as jalapeno believe it or not.
The balanced wine tastes vibrant and is loaded with acidity. It features similar fruit to the nose with lemon, pear and apple as well. It also has a lovely texture with hints of the waxiness from the nose carrying over.
It ends dry and long-lasting with a very satisfying, mouthwatering finish. This is an excellent chance to try a variety you don't find very often, especially in Washington State. This is also a white that will actually improve with some more bottle age so don't have any fear in stocking up.
