Flavorful Chardonnay for less than $4 a bottle? We review the Bota Box America Chardonnay in a 3L box. Cheap and easy, but is it good?
Chardonnay from America, which likely means that this a blend of grapes from multiple AVAs across multiple states.
We’re big fans of box wine, for a whole lot of reasons you can see in that link, but at the end of the day it still needs to be good, right? We’ve had mixed success with the Bota Box wines in the past, so let’s check this one out.
Sample submitted for review. Available for as low as $15, which makes this 3L box the equivalent of $3.75 per regular 750ml bottle.
From the box:
Bota Box Chardonnay is bright and balanced. Poised perfectly between crisp and rich, this wine boasts flavors of lemon, honey crisp apple, and graham cracker. It ends with a rich, juicy finish that’ll have you saying chardon-yay. Best served chilled. Enjoy this medium bodied wine on its own or at a summer concert in the park.

The non-vintage Bota Box Chardonnay is a bit shy on the nose with a bit of a vegetal note (asparagus?) under the citrus and melon. It’s not a great start to be honest.
Things improve quite a bit when tasting in this light but flavorful wine. Neither oaky nor buttery, it features decent acidity plus apple and other citrus notes and a little melon.
It ends dry, crisp , juicy and actually kind of long. This is absolutely fine for the price.
