The 2015 Canoe Ridge The Explorer Red Blend opens with a wonderfully intoxicating aroma of blackberry and vanilla in addition to secondary notes of plum, tobacco, chocolate, licorice and even a hint of smoked meat. And that’s just the start. Tasting this wine reveals a big, full-bodied, voluptuous delight. There’s lots of rich dark fruit, plenty of oak influence and loads of grippy tannins. All those secondary flavors from the nose also make an appearance in the mouth. Lingering chocolate, vanilla, licorice and cedar-tinged fruit last and last on the dry, satisfying finish. This is definitely worthy of an extended exploration!
