Casal de Ventozela Loureiro - Refreshment

By: Jon Thorsen Published: June 6, 2016 Last Updated: October 1, 2021

Casal de Ventozela Loureiro - Refreshment
The Casal de Ventozela Loureiro, another fine find from Vinho Verde.

100% Loureiro from Vale do Ave, Vinho Verde, Portugal. The wine is aged in stainless steel and has a residual sugar of 3.6 grams/liter.

This review is brought to you by Vinho Verde Wines.

The Casal de Ventozela Loureiro is available for as low as $13. Sample submitted for review.

    From the bottle:

Characterized by strong traditions, in northern Portugal, the culture of the winery takes unique features. The region is drawn by hills and valleys and many fields are flanked by fences that stretch along the pathways, producing wines pleasantly light and fresh.

    12% Alcohol

We've been exploring Vinho Verde from just about every angle we could over the last couple months. And yet despite numerous posts on the topic there's still more to explore. Today's wine, made from the second grape featured in our Grapes of Vinho Verde post, is another eye-opener.

The 2014 Casal de Ventozela Loureiro begins with a pleasant aroma of grapefruit, melon, apple and tropical fruit aromas plus a few floral notes. The wine tastes of grapefruit, melon, grass and lime and is quite tasty. It's a bit like a nice Sauvignon Blanc with some added fizz that makes it quite refreshing. It ends with a crisp and fresh finish. Yet another side of the multi-faceted Vinho Verde region that is worthy of exploration.
