By: Jon Thorsen Last Updated: November 13, 2017

Everything we love in a good Chianti.

Castello di Gabbiano Chianti Classico Riserva - Classic Indeed!

95% Sangiovese and 5% Merlot from Tuscany, Italy. The wine is aged for 14 months in a combination of medium to large casks (15 to 35 hectolitres) and 225 litre French oak barrels.

Sample submitted for review. The Castello di Gabbiano Chianti Classico Riserva has an SRP of $25 and can be found for as low as $16. Ready to buy? Check your local retailers. Imported by TWE Imports.

From the bottle:

In 1124, Castello di Gabbiano was established in the heart of the renowned Chianti Classico region. During the Middle Ages, a courageous Italian knight, Il Cavaliere, dedicated himself to protecting our castle and vineyards. His code of honor came to embody our philosophy that the finest things in life deserve our fiercest commitment – estate vineyards, Old World traditions, and the enjoyment of robust wines.

Our Chianti Classico Riserva is made from the finest grapes grown on our Estate. It has flavors of blackberry and notes of leather and spice. Salute.

13.5% Alcohol

The 2013 Castello di Gabbiano Chianti Classico Riserva begins with a very pleasing and inviting aroma of cherry and strawberry plus nice touches of earth, vanilla and spice. The medium-bodied and well-structured wine tastes delicious and is chock-full of juicy black cherry, strawberry and plum with nicely integrated spice and more earthy notes. This one is ready to drink now. It also features a smooth mouthfeel yet still retains that classic rustic Chianti character. Chalky tannins lead into the dry, bit dusty finish with very good length. Delicious vanilla and chocolate tinged fruit notes last for a long time in the mouth.
