I gotta say right off the bat, I was blown away by this one. Made more in the Burgundian style, this is definitely a contender for the one of best California Chardonnay I've ever tasted.

The 2016 Center of Effort Chardonnay is all Clone 5 from blocks 171, 103 and 141 of the Center of Effort estate vineyard. The wine was fermented and aged in a combination of new and once used French oak barrels, concrete tanks (19%) and even a small amount (2%) in acacia barrels to add nuance to the final blend.
100% of the wine underwent malolactic fermentation. Just 1,822 6-bottle cases (911 full cases) were produced.

Elegant and understated, with aromas of Meyer lemon zest, wet stone and a suggestion of white truffle. Quince, tangerine, and raw almond on the palate, with spice tones of nutmeg and clove on the long finish. Beautiful balance and energy, this is a wine for lovers of white Burgundy wines, and will reward proper mid-term cellaring.
Only the finest Chardonnay sub-blocks of the vintage were identified and designated for Center of Effort. These vines were handpicked at varying stages of maturation under the direction of the winemaking team to develop a natural tapestry of flavor, texture and acidity.

The 2016 Center of Effort Edna Valley Chardonnay opens with a strong and very enticing aroma filled with lots of lovely lemon plus more citrus and peach. You'll also find a wonderful nutmeg note and touches of tropical fruit and flowers.
The wine tastes fantastic. Lively and delicious in the mouth, this Chardonnay has great depth of flavor. Those flavors are similar to the nose and combine harmoniously in the mouth along with touches of honey. All of the wine underwent malolactic fermentation but there are almost no buttery notes to be found.
It ends with a dry, very satisfying and very long-lasting finish that even has some nice minerality to it. As I said above this is one of the very best California Chardonnay I've ever tasted. Made more in the Burgundian style than what you typically find in California, this is amazingly delicious.
