The 2017 El Ganador Malbec begins with a pleasing aroma of plum, blackberry, a little black pepper and spice. Taking a sip reveals juicy fruit similar to the nose along with a smooth and even a bit velvety mouthfeel in this medium to full-bodied wine. More spice, licorice and touches of cocoa plus a bit of earthiness combine to make this a really nice all-around Malbec. It ends with a dry, long, grippy finish.
One of the great things about this variety is that you can still find this kind of quality for so little cost. Delicious Malbec for $8? We call that winning.
