The 2018 Evanta Malbec from Aldi. It doesn't live up to the hype of the 2017 vintage, but it's not bad for just $3.99.
Malbec from Mendoza, Argentina.
The Evanta Malbec is available exclusively at Aldi and sells for just $3.99. It is imported by Pampa Beverages, LLC.
As high as 1500 meters above sea level, the vineyards of Argentina's Mendoza region beget the small and mighty Malbec grape which flourishes at some of the world's highest altitudes for winemaking.
Our ruby red Mendoza Malbec dazzles with violet reflections and a medium-full body. Dry with notes of blackberries, plum and spice, this wine pairs well with grilled steak, empanadas and lamb. Enjoy at a serving temperature between 45 and 60 degrees.
13.7% Alcohol
Over the last year or so we've heard much hype about the 2017 vintage of this wine but unfortunately our Aldi never had it in stock. As such, we were quite excited to give it a try when the 2018 showed up.
The 2018 Evanta Malbec begins with aromas of blackberry, black cherry, plum and a little cedar. Tasting shows a smooth mouthfeel with nice dark fruit and bits of spice. There's really nothing special or memorable about it but nothing objectionable either. This is just a nicely made wine at this low of a price. It ends with a little burst of oaky spice on the dry, medium-short finish.
Sounds like the previous vintage was more of stand-out but this one is still worth the $4 price tag (which sets the bar pretty low). If you want to spend a few dollars more we much prefer Aldi's Exquisite Collection Malbec.
