Exquisite Collection Malbec – Decent

An under $10 daily drinker from Aldi, we review the latest vintage of the Exquisite Collection Malbec.

Exquisite Collection Malbec - Decent

Malbec from Mendoza, Argentina.

The Exquisite Collection Malbec is available exclusively at Aldi and now sells for $8.99 (a $1 increase from the last vintage). It is imported by Pampa Beverages.

From the bottle:

Located in the foothills of the Andes Mountains you will find Argentina’s high-altitude wine region of Mendoza. A place where the climate and geography create perfect conditions for its best known varietal, Malbec. A full-bodied dry wine with notes of black cherry and plum, this Malbec has a long spicy finish. It pairs well with barbecued red meat, ribs, mild cheeses and is best served at room temperature.

Bottled by Mendoza Vineyards
13.5% Alcohol

We absolutely loved the 2018 vintage of this wine, but unfortunately it has been a bit hit or miss since that point. Today we check out the 2021 vintage.

The 2021 Exquisite Collection Malbec begins with a pleasing but muted aroma of blackberry, plum, black tea and a little cedar.

Tasting the medium to full-bodied wine reveals lots of fruit, good spice, good structure and a smooth mouthfeel. Mostly dry but with just a touch of sweetness, this is a good but not great buy at only $9.

It ends with a medium long finish of tart fruit and touches of oaky spice.

And here’s our previous review of the 2020 vintage:

The 2020 Exquisite Collection Malbec begins with a pleasing but muted aroma of blackberry, plum, black tea and a little cedar. Tasting the medium to full-bodied wine reveals lots of fruit, good spice and good structure and while it’s a bit smoother than the 2019, it still lacks the depth of flavor of the 2018.

Mostly dry but with a touch of sweetness, this is a good but not great buy at only $8. It ends with a medium long finish of tart fruit and touches of oaky spice.
