An attractive, balanced white from Lugana in Northern Italy, the Famiglia Olivini Lugana.
100% Trebbiano di Laguna (Verdicchio) from the Lugana wine region in northern Italy. The wine has less than 2 g/L of residual sugar.
The Lugana region at the southern end of Lake Garda (one of our favorite spots in the world) is known for their excellent whites. The wines are made from the confusingly named Trebbiano di Lugana, which is actually Verdicchio - as it seems are many, but not all, variations of Trebbiano. In any case, most important to us is that this variety produces some really excellent wines.
Sample submitted for review. The wine has an SRP of $18 and is available for as low as $16.
Wine obtained exclusively from the grapes of the typical autochthonous variety, carefully selected among the best grapes of the vines cultivated in the property located in one of the most historical areas of their designation. Of straw color, with greenish reflexes, it is characterized by elegant scents, pleasantly fruity and intense, with delicate citrus tones. It is a fresh and tasty wine, full-bodied, with a pleasant persistence of after taste.
Ideal for aperitifs and first fish and vegetable dishes. Excellent with fish baked in foil, it is ideal to accompany white meats and veal.
13% Alcohol
The 2018 Famiglia Olivini Lugana opens with pleasing and fresh aromas of lemon, apple, citrus and a touch of honeysuckle and an oily note. It's quite attractive.
The wine tastes smooth with a vibrant mouthfeel and features similar flavors to the nose although the fruit is more tart in the mouth. Balanced and with good depth, this is quite pleasing.
It ends dry, crisp and long with some lingering mineral notes.
