A nice Syrah and Grenache blend from Trader Joe's, we check out the latest vintage of the Foggy Veil Santa Barbara County Red Wine.
77% Syrah and 23% Grenache from Santa Barbara County, California. The wine was aged in oak for an unspecified amount of time.
The Foggy Veil Santa Barbara County Red is available exclusively at Trader Joe's in the US and sells for $13.99.
Our close proximity to the Pacific Ocean creates an extended cool growing environment. This is perfect for Rhone varietals giving the grapes ample time to build flavor on the vine, producing succumbing aromas of cedar and peppery notes with flavors of licorice and cherry.

The 2019 Foggy Veil Santa Barbara County Red Wine begins with aromas of black cherry, cola, a bit of spice and a little bit of an earthy, bell pepper note. Honestly, it's a bit underwhelming at first but wow does that change as it has time to breathe.
The smooth, medium bodied wine tastes of plum and lots of juicy, ripe dark berry fruit. Like we noted above, it's a bit disjointed until it has some air and then everything just comes together nicely. In fact, it just keeps getting better and better and was at its best on day 2.
Hints of licorice, cola, spice, chocolate, vanilla and a little earthiness lead into the dry, long, savory finish.

And here's our previous review of the 2017 vintage:
The 2017 Foggy Veil Hillside Selection Santa Barbara County Red Blend begins with aromas of black cherry, cola, a bit of spice and a little bit of an earthy, bell pepper note. It definitely needs some air to open up to be at its best, it's even a bit funky when first popped and poured, but it definitely fills out nicely after a couple hours.
The smooth, medium bodied wine tastes of plum and lots of juicy, ripe dark berry fruit. Honestly I wasn't quite sure what to make of it at first sip - it's a bit disjointed until the mid-palate where everything just comes together nicely. Hints of licorice, cola, spice, chocolate, vanilla and a little earthiness lead into the dry, long finish. It evens out a bit more as it has more air too so be sure to give this one a good decant before consuming.
