Gård Vintners’ Collection Series aims to showcase the unique characteristics of our specific estate vineyard sites farmed sustainably on the Royal Slope. Lawrence Vineyards provides an excellent framework for grape production, while the diversity of each location delivers a high level of uniqueness and complexity to our wines.

With elevations that range 775 feet to 1,675 feet and primarily south-facing slopes, Lawrence Vineyards provide a great framework for grape production, while the diversity of each of the locations delivers a high level of complexity to Gård wines.

The 2020 Gard Collection Series Scarline Cabernet Sauvignon begins with a deep, enticing aroma full of black cherry and other dark fruit, spice and licorice plus hints of vanilla and mint. It’s a very Cab-like and very good start!

The medium to full-bodied wine has a smooth mouthfeel with similar flavors to the nose. It also features firm tannins throughout, good acidity and great structure. This is a pretty classic rendition of a high end Cabernet.

It ends dry, long, grippy and delicious and was even a bit smoother on day 2. We put this at the high end of our 9 Taste Rating at 92-93 points.

2020 Gard Collection Series Cabernet Sauvignon – Conner Lee Vineyard

Mature black and red fruits, poised and sophisticated with spice and depth. Beautifully textured with fine tannins and a fruit-driven finish.

And now on to our review:

The 2020 Gard Collection Series Conner Lee Cabernet Sauvignon really shows the variation among these vineyards with a distinctly different nose that has riper and more brambly fruit plus a bit of an earthy note. The spice notes here are also more Asian than baking. It’s a very good start!

Tasting the wine reveals it to be smooth and round in the mouth with all of the same flavors and touches from the nose combining quite nicely. The fruit is a bit juicy and the whole thing really sings especially after a couple hours of air.

It ends dry, soft and quite long on the savory finish and was similar on day 2. We also put this at the high end of our 9 Taste Rating at 92-93 points.

Bright red fruits, medium bodied and commonly accented by a floral note with bright acid and fine chalky tannins.

And now on to our review:

The 2020 Gard Collection Series Laura Lee Cabernet Sauvignon has a nose in-between the Conner Lee and the Scarline. It is just a bit ripe, with a bit more red fruit than either of those wines. It also still has nice spice plus some pleasing floral notes. It’s not really earthy but there is perhaps a touch of minerality. It’s a great start!

The wine tastes…well, wow! This wasn’t my favorite when I first popped it open but after about an hour, it just absolutely blossomed into probably my highest rating of the bunch. Smooth and medium-to-full bodied, it features absolutely wonderfully integrated spice plus juicy, luscious almost sweet-tasting fruit in this dry wine. Balanced, structured and delicious, this one has it all!

It ends dry, very long and grippy on the savory finish and was just as good on day 2.

Finally we have the 2020 Gard Collection Series Cabernet Sauvignon from the Solaksen Vineyard, which is at the highest altitude of these four wines. You will receive 1 bottle in today’s 4-Pack.

Classic blue and black fruits, medium-to-full bodied with plush textures and very fine tannins.

And now on to our review:

The 2020 Gard Collection Series Solaksen Cabernet Sauvignon begins with pleasing aromas of blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, baking spice, cedar, licorice and a little cigar box. It starts a little slow but just like the Laura Lee it really blossoms and opens up with some time in the glass.

Taking a sip reveals a smooth, silky and balanced wine featuring similar flavors to the nose with well-integrated spice. This is delicious!

It ends dry, long and grippy with lots of lasting spice and was even better on day 2. A high 9 Taste Rating on day 1, this one hit a 10 by day 2 so don’t be afraid to give it lots time to breathe.
