The Chardonnay fruit is sourced from three vineyards located at the southern end of Dry Creek Valley. They benefit from the cool microclimate and alluvial soils near the Russian River and produces Chardonnay with exceptional fruit and balance, culminating in great character.
Drought influenced the growing season, with less rain it lowered production and acidity but intensified the flavors. Chardonnay was harvested over the first two weeks of September. As a result, the wine shows high concentration of aromatics with varietal flavors and mild acidity.
Aromas of citrus and pineapple lead to juicy tropical flavors of mango, meyer lemon, and honey finishing clean and bright. A smooth-bodied Chardonnay highlighted by medium acidity, the taste lingers with tropical flavors and a light finish. Drink now—no aging required.

The 2021 Pedroncelli Dry Creek Valley Signature Selection Chardonnay opens with a pleasing, inviting aroma of green apple, citrus and a little tropical fruit (mostly pineapple) along with a bit of a floral and nutty note. It's a very nice start.
Taking a sip reveals a tasty, easy to drink Chardonnay with wonderful balance and no buttery notes at all. It features similar flavors to the nose with a bit more tropical fruit when tasting and a touch of spice. It's smooth and round with a bit of creaminess to it but still quite lively in the mouth.
There's a touch of honey leading into the finish of this dry wine (it has just 4 g/L of residual sugar). It ends crisp, clean, dry and long-lasting with the tart fruit lingering on your lips. This is a great all-around Chardonnay!

Next, we've got the F. Johnson Vineyard Chardonnay.

The Frank Johnson Vineyard was planted to Chardonnay more than 40 years ago and is a primary source for Pedroncelli. A particular block is chosen for our small lot barrel-fermented style Chardonnay. Two appellations meet in this vineyard: Russian River Valley on the south side and Dry Creek Valley to the north. Fruit comes entirely from a designated portion on the Dry Creek Valley side. Influenced by the cool climate that combines marine fog layers and the confluence of two main waterways, the resulting wine shows exceptional quality.
The bouquet of our F. Johnson Vineyard Chardonnay shows tropical fruit and toasted notes with a touch of vanilla. Rich and layered flavors of Crème brulee and peach following through to balanced acidity and a touch of toasty oak. Barrel fermentation and malo-lactic fermentation add underlying complexity and richness. Medium bodied, the fruit flavors blend with together for a bright and creamy finish. Enjoy now or within three years of release.

The 2021 Pedroncelli F. Johnson Vineyard Chardonnay opens with a very attractive aroma of citrus and tropical fruit plus touches of vanilla, butter, honeysuckle and crème brulee.
The first thing you'll notice when taking a sip is the smooth, very round, creamy and almost comforting mouthfeel. The fruit, which offers great depth, tends more to the tart, tropical side of things in the mouth with some zesty lemon as well. There are touches of oaky spice throughout and the wine features just enough of a buttery note to add to the experience without overwhelming it.
With plenty of complexity, this is very, very good Chardonnay! Don't drink it too cold to experience it at its best - straight out of the fridge is probably a bit too chilly.
It ends dry and very long with lots of lingering creamy notes and tart fruit. Lovely!
