Most of the vineyard was re-planted in the 80s using vines cloned from the originals (hence the name) but the wine also includes fruit from the remaining 110+ year-old "Mother" vines. It spends 12 months in American oak, 30% new.

Estate fruit was harvested from the northern end of Dry Creek Valley, where these Bordeaux varieties excel. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot were hand-picked just a mile from the winery. Each develop exceptional character on the vineyard sites situated on the valley bench. The vines receive the right amount of sun and cooling fog which develops optimal flavors in the grapes. Careful vineyard management during the growing season defines the style even more.
Aromas of dark ripe berries, dried herbs and earthy notes introduce this medium bodied Cabernet Sauvignon. Round tannins are framed by cherry, plum and blackberry fruit followed by highlights of oregano and mocha toast notes. Great structure and good acidity combine with a long finish framed by toasted notes and spice. Enjoy upon release or cellar up to ten more years.

The 2019 Pedroncelli Three Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon begins with a very inviting aroma of ripe dark berries plus succulent notes of dried herbs and flowers and even a little spice, cola and vanilla.
This delicious, medium to full-bodied wine is super drinkable with dark, juicy fruit and wonderful spice notes plus great balance. Notes of cola, chocolate and coffee under the fruit lead into the long, dry, grippy finish which also has a bit of oaky spice.
Just as good on day, 2, this one has some nice aging potential over the next 5-10 years too. This is quite an amazing bargain at this low price so stock up!
2019 PEDRONCELLI THREE VINEYARDS CABERNET SAUVIGNON

The source for our Merlot comes from three vineyard blocks off our estate vineyard located along Dry Creek Road from vineyard planted over 5 years beginning in 1990. Bench Vineyards, the name chosen for this wine, describes the natural benches that flank Dry Creek Valley and rise gradually into the steep hills. Characterized by sloped topography and gravelly/rocky residual soils, the unique growing conditions combine to bring out the best in our Merlot.
Aromas of dark red fruit and a touch of warm cooking spices. Flavors of cherry and plum are showcased with a vanilla oak toast. Medium bodied with mild tannins follow through to a round and fruity finish. A beautifully balanced wine.

The 2020 Pedroncelli Bench Vineyards Merlot opens with an absolutely lovely, almost dusty aroma of dark fruit with touches of warm spice, vanilla, cedar and licorice. It's a fantastic start.
It only takes one sip to know that this is another excellent wine from Pedroncelli. Smooth and very satisfying with that signature round Merlot mouthfeel, it features delicious juicy dark fruit intermingled with excellent baking spice. Everything just works together perfectly.
It ends with a dry, savory and long finish with a bit of that dustiness from the nose returning along with lingering juicy fruit and continuing spice.
Excellent! And this one is just a baby. As always with these wines from Pedroncelli if you can resist drinking them in the short term (good luck!) you will be highly rewarded once they have a few years of age.
2020 PEDRONCELLI BENCH VINEYARDS MERLOT

And finally we've got the excellent Zinfandel. Today's deal includes 2 bottles.
From the winery:
The Pedroncelli house is founded on Zinfandel. It was the first grape planted in the early 1900s, it was the first wine Giovanni made after Prohibition ended and it was also the first varietal we labeled under our name in 1947. Using the budwood from the mother vineyard to clone a second generation carries our vineyard story forward, echoing the generations of our family. The fruit from three generations of these “mother” vines are part of the blend as well as fruit from the Bushnell and Giovannoni vineyards.
Our Mother Clone is a classic ‘Dry Creek’ Zinfandel with aromas of ripe red berries with a touches of cinnamon, vanilla and white pepper spice. Red cherry flavors combine with vanilla, licorice and warm baking spices. The berry-spice combination, so typical of Dry Creek Zin, includes a touch of pepper with the rounded finish which are a hallmark of our style.

The 2020 Pedroncelli Mother Clone Zinfandel opens with a wonderful aroma of blackberry, plum, baking spice, licorice and touches of vanilla that all combine seamlessly.
Taking a sip reveals a smooth, lovely, medium to full-bodied wine filled with juicy dark berry fruit, more wonderfully integrated spice, vanilla and a little cola. It's flavorful but not over the top and quite well-balanced. It tastes similar to the 2019 vintage we previously offered although it has a bit more oak influence at this point, which is likely just because it is younger.
Black pepper and a touch of smoke lead into the dry, very long finish of this fantastic wine.
And while it's drinking amazingly well now (and maybe even slightly better on day 2), we know from experience that the wines from Pedroncelli get even better with age so don't be afraid to stock up.
