Concept: The Grande Escolha Tinto from Quinta do Pinto in the historic Alenquer region of Lisbon represents the highest expression of the Quinta do Pinto estate and the embodiment of the Cardoso Pinto family’s meticulous stewardship of their land. This wine is only made in exceptional vintages and is intended to represent the full potential of what the Quinta do Pinto estate is capable of producing. An elegant and ageworthy blend, this expression combines indigenous Portuguese and French varietals to create a bold, highly-structured, and layered wine that develops over time and in the glass. The wine shines as an example of the awesome potential for what the ubiquitous Portuguese varietal Touriga Nacional can become when truly cared for and patiently crafted. Combined with complementary flavors of Petit Verdot and Merlot the wine exhibits layers of dark fruits, almost loamy earthiness, and a sustained acid and tannic structure that makes it truly a pleasure to enjoy.

Tasting Notes: Blend of 30% Tinta Miúda, 30% Petit Verdot, 20% Touriga Nacional, and 20% Syrah. Aged for 36 months in French oak barrels.

Rich and full-bodied with notes of ripe blackberry, plum, and cassis, layered with violet, dried herbs, and spice. Velvety texture, fine tannins, and a long, elegant finish showing minerality and subtle oak.

And now on to our review:

The 2019 Quinta Do Pinto Grande Escolha opens with a wonderful aroma full of dark fruit, attractive and well-integrated spice, licorice, a little cedar and other touches. It’s a very enticing and deep aroma portending good things.

All it takes is one sip to know there are lot of good things happening here! This is dark, JUICY and delicious and full of depth and concentration. Aged wonderfully, this is super smooth with fine and velvety tannins and features tons of flavor similar to the nose. It also has plenty of structure and acidity.

It ends dry, very long and a bit grippy and was just as good on day 2. This is excellent stuff.
