From the bottle:
Situated on a picturesque hillside of the historic village of San Vicente de La Sonsierra, the winery “Bodega Classica” rises above a veritable sea of vineyards, flanked by the winding course of the River Ebro and the slopes of the mountain range of Sierra de Tolono.
The 2009 Lopez de Haro Rioja Reserva begins with pleasing and inviting aromas of ripe black cherry, nice vanilla notes and a touch of balsamic. The wine tastes smooth and round in the mouth with lots of tart black cherry fruit, sweet spice notes, licorice and more vanilla. It turns a bit oakier mid-palate with touches of coffee and chocolate that carry into the dry, long finish.
Rioja Reservas are a wonderful category for wine drinkers looking to find value. Thanks to the strict regulations and substantial oak aging with these wines, we’ve found numerous QPR champs under $20. And occasionally, like today’s wine, they even drop down to around $10.
