From Cameron Hughes:

The third in a series of exceptional red wine values we’ve sourced from a family-owned, boutique North Coast winery that specializes in small-lot, top-quality wines made from certified organic vineyards in Lake County and the Sierra Foothills (and boasts a massive laundry list of 90+ scores and double gold medals from the past decade to boot).

Sourced from a kick-ass volcanic vineyard site at about 1500 feet elevation, in smartly-planted, conscientiously-farmed vineyards. Farmed to perfection and produced to be reflective of place and varietal, this is a powerful statement of quality. Already a terrific value under the original label at $25, and an incredible deal under ours.

15.5% Alcohol

One of our favorite varieties of wine, we were more than excited when the chance came up to taste this Petite Sirah from Cameron Hughes.

The 2016 Cameron Hughes Red Hills Petite Sirah Lot 652 opens with deep, dark aromas of blackberry, black cherry, plum, pencil shavings, violets, vanilla and spice. I love it right from the get-go. If you’re drinking this wine now be forewarned that it does need a lot of time to breathe to develop so you’ll definitely want to decant or even aerate it. When you do, you’ll find a thick, rich Petite Sirah that’s not for the faint of heart. It features similar flavors to the nose with some graphite minerality underneath and even a bit of dustiness on the long, dry, finish.
