Paso Robles Cab for under 10 bucks? The Outlander Cabernet Sauvignon from Aldi.
Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso Robles, California.
The Outlander Cabernet Sauvignon is available exclusively at Aldi and sells for just $8.99.
Some say “Cab is King” in Paso Robles. We honor this heritage with a wine that lives up to this lineage. We blend this Cabernet Sauvignon to create a concentrated wine with aromas of currant, blackberry, and hints of caramel, finishing with plum and cherry lingering on the palate.
A perfect match with beef tenderloin, turkey pot pie, or au gratin potatoes.
13.5% Alcohol
The 2016 Outlander Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon begins with a pleasing aroma of blackberry, plum, vanilla, baking spice, chocolate and more. While neither Aldi nor the label specifies how this one was aged, there’s obviously plenty of oak influence of some sort.
Tasting reveals deep, rich, dark berry and cherry fruit with plenty of chocolate and vanilla. This is a really flavorful Cab which is a bit unexpected at this cost although it does come off a tad mechanical. Still, it’s a half-step above most of the other mass market brands out there, and you’re not going to find much Paso Robles Cab at this price point to begin with (typically you’re looking at Central Coast or even Chile).
Lots of oaky sweet fruit leads into the dry, spicy, long finish of lingering coffee notes. Overall, it’s pretty good and it improves with air so be sure to give it some time in the glass.
