The 2014 Painted Passage GSM begins with a pleasant aroma of red and black cherry, spice, red licorice and a bit of wintergreen. The wine is a bit lighter bodied than I was expecting (medium-bodied overall) but very smooth and quite good. It does need an hour or so in the glass to really open up and develop so give it some time. Red cherry, a little pomegranate, plenty of spice and more wintergreen all make for an easy-drinking combination. Fine, dry tannins and a bit of oaky spice lead into the long, red cherry filled finish which also features a nice streak of earthiness.
