First up, we've got the 2019 Pedroncelli Mother Clone Zinfandel, which is 86% Zinfandel and 14% Petite Sirah from an estate vineyard planted to Zinfandel since 1904 as well as the Bushnell, Giovannoni and Faloni vineyards in the Dry Creek Valley. The wine is aged for 12 months in American oak (30% new).

Previous vintages have a long history of 90+ scores and this newly released vintage already has a 90 point rating from Tastings. Like we mentioned earlier, we've offered this wine several times in the past and it is one of our top selling deals.

Our Mother Clone is a classic ‘Dry Creek’ Zinfandel with aromas of ripe red berries with a touch of cinnamon and white pepper. Jammy berry and cherry flavors combine with vanilla, licorice and baking spice. The dynamic berry-spice combination brings together round tannins and a zesty finish which are a hallmark of our style. Enjoy now or cellar for three to five years.

The 2019 Pedroncelli Mother Clone Zinfandel opens with a beautiful mix of aromas that sucks you right into the glass. Blackberry, plum, baking spice, licorice and touches of vanilla all combine seamlessly.

Taking a sip reveals a smooth, lovely, medium to full-bodied wine filled with juicy dark berry fruit, more wonderfully integrated spice and a little cola. It's flavorful but not over the top and quite well-balanced. Black pepper and a touch of smoke lead into the dry, very long finish of this fantastic wine.

And while it's drinking amazingly well now (and maybe even slightly better on day 2), we know from experience that the wines from Pedroncelli get even better with age so don't be afraid to stock up.

Next we've got the 2018 Pedroncelli Bushnell Vineyard Zinfandel which comes from the eastern hillsides of Dry Creek Valley. The wine spends 18 months in American oak, 40% of which was new. This vintage of the wine received 92 points from Wine & Spirits magazine and 90 points from Wine Spectator. It normally retails for $28.

From the winery:

Located on the eastern hillsides of Dry Creek Valley, the 22-acre Bushnell Vineyard has been closely related to the Pedroncelli family for over 80 years. Winery founder John Sr. purchased the property in 1943, and we have been sourcing Zinfandel and Petite Sirah for our wines since that time. The vineyard was sold to daughter Margaret and son-in-law Al Pedroni in the 1950’s and they tended the vineyard for 40 years. Their daughter Carol Bushnell now farms the vineyard.

Inviting aromas of black pepper, clove and cinnamon are up front complemented by red berry and vanilla notes. Blackberry, plum, and mocha flavors are accented by the warm baking spices. A spicy and full bodied Zinfandel with a long, rich finish and great balance between the fruit, acidity and smooth tannins.

14.8% Alcohol

The 2018 Pedroncelli Bushnell Vineyard Zinfandel begins with pleasing aromas of cherry, black cherry, cedar, oak, spice and some wonderful earthiness. You can tell right away there is going to be lots of complexity in this one.

Tasting reveals another lovely Zin but one that is different than the others in that it has more of an earthy streak. It gives you a great idea of how the same variety can express itself differently from different vineyards in the same region. Featuring similar flavors to the nose plus a smooth mouthfeel, this is really delicious.

It ends dry, long, savory and a bit tannic, grippy and chewy. It does needs a good amount of time to open up so plan appropriately or just cellar it for a couple years. We found it to be just as good on day 2.

And finally, we have the 2017 Pedroncelli Courage Zinfandel which comes from the Faloni Vineyard. The wine spends 18 months in American oak, 30% of which was new. This vintage of the wine received 92 points from Tastings and 91 points from Wine Advocate. It normally retails for $36.

Dave and Dena Faloni are the neighbors behind Courage Zinfandel, a three-generation grape growing family located two miles west of the winery. While most Zinfandel in the valley is head-pruned Dave has trained his vines on a trellis. He knows every quirk of the soil and every vine on their 24 acres having farmed it all of his life.

Dark ruby in the glass followed by aromas of ripe blackberry, cherry, and clove. Full bodied with lush red berry, vanilla, mocha notes with a deep spice bramble flavor. Bright acidity and velvety tannins highlight this Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel. The long slightly smoky finish is highlighted by the peppery finish.

The 2017 Pedroncelli Courage Zinfandel begins with an absolutely lovely, intoxicating aroma of cherry, blackberry, lots of spice, a little raisin, vanilla and much more. You'll have a hard time getting your nose out of the glass of this one!

Taking a sip of the smooth, medium to full-bodied wine reveals a balanced, structured and super delicious Zin that handles the 16% alcohol very well. It features similar flavors to the nose with a bit more brambly fruit in the mouth. Everything just works together wonderfully here, this is a great example of Zinfandel.

It ends dry, spicy, peppery and very long. Fantastic and day 2 was just as good.
