Two seriously good wines in a can from Stupendous Cellars, the Right Now Red Number 8 and Right Now Alpine Stream White.
Samples submitted for review. Both wines have an SRP of $6 per 375ml can (half a traditional 750ml bottle) and can be found for as low as $5.
First up is the Right Now Red Number 8, a blend of 63% Zinfandel, 25% Petit Verdot, 10% Merlot and 3% Petite Sirah from Lodi, California.
Right Now is all about making sure that you can have great wine whenever and wherever you want it. We only use high-quality fruit, because a can is not an excuse to compromise on quality.
This wine draws its character from the unique composition of Zinfandel and Petit Verdot. The fruit forward nature of the Zinfandel shines through with bright notes of blackberry and raspberry with a subtle hint of spice. The Petit Verdot brings a deep purple color, aromas of blackcurrant, and an earthy base. The Lodi Zinfandel was the perfect base for making a blend with appeal to many segments of consumer.

The 2016 Right Now Red Number 8 wine in a can begins with a pleasing aroma of jammy berries and spice plus a little mint. Taking a sip reveals tasty dark fruit with lots of late developing spice. This one evolves quite a bit as you drink it which is definitely not what you expect coming from a can!
Adding in the Petit Verdot is an interesting and very good choice that adds some character that you don't typically find in a Zin blend and actually helps it to be more balanced I think. (This isn't the big over-the-top style of Zin.) It ends dry and long. It's a great pick if you're looking for can wine!

Next up is the Right Now Alpine Stream White, a blend of 85% Pinot Gris, 10% Viognier, 3% Sauvignon Blanc and 2% Vermentino Lodi, California.
Right Now is all about making sure that you can have great wine whenever and wherever you want it. We only use high-quality fruit, because a can is not an excuse to compromise on quality.
The Right Now Alpine Stream is a vibrant Rhone inspired white. Made to drink year-round, this canned white has notes of peach, ripe stone fruit, and apricot that fill the mouth. Selected from prestigious single vineyards in Lodi, and harvested at night to protect the fresh flavors, the grapes were fermented separately and blended based on trials of the individual character of each wine.
12.5% Alcohol
The 2017 Right Now Alpine Stream White wine in a can begins with a pleasing aroma of peach, some light floral notes and even a bit of stony minerality. Tasting shows a lively mouthfeel with the fruit turning a bit more tart in the mouth and the hints of minerality continuing. It ends dry and long with lots of lingering tart fruit.
Pour this one into a glass and serve it up and no one would ever have any idea it came from a can. It's also nothing like what we find in too many canned wines. With no bubbles and no sweetness, this is just a really good, dry, delicate, complex, and very satisfying wine. All this in a can? We love it!
