Santa Rita Secret Reserve Red Blend - Value Revealed

By: Jon Thorsen Published: December 3, 2015 Last Updated: June 1, 2021

Santa Rita Secret Reserve Red Blend - Value RevealedA true $10 value.

53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 15% Syrah, 7% Petit Verdot and 5% Carmenere from Maipo Valley, Chile. The wine has a residual sugar level of 3.9g/L.

Sample submitted for review. The Santa Rita Secret Reserve Red Blend has an SRP of $12 and is available for as low as $9. Imported by Palm Bay International.

    From the bottle:

Every mirror holds a secret. Secret Reserve keeps yours.

For more than a century an ancient mirror hanging at the Santa Rita Estate has kept the secrets of the dances held, toasts made, and the moments shared there. And like each and every mirror, each glass of our secret reserve wine SR will be filled with the stories that begin as you share this bottle.

    13% Alcohol

The 2013 Santa Rita Secret Reserve Red Blend needs a little air when first opened, but quickly reveals very nice aromas of blackberry, plum, licorice, a bit of oaky spice and a touch of green. Tasting the wine shows a pleasing, smooth and round mouthfeel full of cola notes plus more blackberry and plum. There's also a nice streak of black pepper and some continuing green notes. It ends with cola and coffee on the dry, medium-length finish. For a $10 red blend, this wine offers a really nice combination of complexity and drinkability without going the overly sweet route. Definitely not a wine you'll want to keep a secret.
