Checking out the latest vintage of the velvety smooth Scarlet Path Old Vine Lodi Zinfandel from Aldi.
Zinfandel from Lodi, California.

From the bottle:
With the Sierra Nevada Mountains looming to the east and Pacific Ocean breezes flowing in from the west, Lodi is a preeminent area for rich red wines with deep color and structure. This full-bodied Old Vine Zinfandel honors our region’s birthright with ripe flavors of black cherry and raspberry that lead to a luscious finish. Enjoy with lasagna, roast beef, or aged Cheddar. Best served at a cellar temperature, 60F.

The 2022 Scarlet Path Zinfandel begins with a pleasant aroma of dark and sweet fruit, mint, licorice, cola, spice and a little earthiness.
Tasting shows lots of juicy, sweet and jammy candied cherry fruit along with nicely integrated spice notes. It also features a velvety mouthfeel. It’s not very complex but the slightly sweet and smooth combination means the wine has lots of crowd appeal.
It ends mostly dry with lots of lingering fruit and touches of tobacco and other oaky spice on the long, grippy finish. It was similar on day 2. This is an easy, easy drinker especially for those that like a little residual sugar in their wine.
The bottle doesn’t have the velvet-like label like previous vintages, but the wine itself is very similar.
