It’s not just the label that is velvety smooth, the Scarlet Path Old Vine Lodi Zinfandel from Aldi.
Zinfandel from Lodi, California.
The Scarlet Path Lodi Zinfandel is available exclusively at Aldi and sells for just $7.99.
With the Sierra Nevada Mountains looming to the east and Pacific Ocean breezes flowing in from the west, Lodi is a preeminent area for rich red wines with deep color and structure. This full-bodied Old Vine Zinfandel honors our region’s birthright with ripe flavors of black cherry and raspberry that lead to a luscious finish. Enjoy with lasagna, roast beef, or aged Cheddar. Best served at a cellar temperature, 60F.
13.5% Alcohol
The 2017 Scarlet Path Zinfandel begins with a pleasant aroma of dark fruit, mint, licorice, cola, spice and a little earthiness.
Tasting shows lots of juicy, sweet and jammy candied cherry fruit along with nicely integrated spice notes. It also features a velvety mouthfeel just liked you would expect from the label.
It ends dry with lots of lingering fruit and touches of tobacco and other oaky spice on the long, grippy finish.
This one also gets bonus points for the velvet label. The Aldi location I shopped had both the 2016 and 2017 vintages on the shelf and the 2016 just had a normal looking paper label. The 2017 label is similar to the Big Smooth Zin which coincidentally is also a Zinfandel from Lodi.
