We couldn’t find any outside ratings on this newly released vintage but the 2019 received 92 points from Wine Enthusiast. We put this 2020 right in the same category, in fact we actually liked the 2020 a bit more thanks to the higher percentage of Petite Sirah in the blend.
This is also another excellent wine from the sweet spot of Lake County and its volcanic soils and high elevation vineyards. We can’t seem to get enough of the wines from this area and based on the results of these offers, you can’t either!

The 2020 Shannon Ridge Appellation Series Home Ranch Red is a blend of 41% Petite Sirah, 32% Syrah, 13% Merlot, 10% Barbera and 4% Petit Verdot from Lake County, California. The wine has 5.2 g/L of residual sugar.
From the winery:
The 2020 vintage started out dry and warm. Weeks of 100+ degree weather in early May gave the vines a jump start. The heat held strong until August with a record 116˚F day in July! We started harvest a week earlier than normal, with all white grapes in house and fermenting beautifully by Sept 20th. The temperature cooled down to 80s during the harvest lull and stretched out the hang time on our reds allowing phenolic ripeness of the skins. A welcome cloud cover came on October 10th and allowed the fruit to dehydrate and get more hang time. Tonnages ended up lighter due to low spring rains. We are seeing good color concentration and density in this vintage.
This Red Blend has intense red color with violet reflections. On the nose, it surprises with an intense bouquet of red fruit such as strawberries and raspberries. In the mouth it is complex, high-lighting bold fruit with the sensation of cocoa and coffee with a persistent and elegant finish.

The 2020 Shannon Ridge Appellation Series Home Ranch Red Blend opens with an attractive aroma full of dark fruit and spice plus a little vanilla and cigar box. It’s a very nice start.
Taking a sip reveals lots of rich, dark fruit in this slightly tannic wine. You can really taste that Petite Sirah influence coming through and we love it. Quite tasty even from the start, it gets even better as it has time to breathe.
It ends dry, long and a bit chewy with lasting juicy fruit. This is a really solid blend and it was even better on day 2 where the finish is even longer and chewier and features plenty of very long-lasting spice.
