Stephane Aviron Cote de Brouilly - Great Gamay

By: Jon Thorsen Published: February 15, 2022 Last Updated: January 17, 2023

A smooth, balanced and very drinkable cru Beaujolais, the Stephane Aviron Cote de Brouilly.

Stephane Aviron Cote de Brouilly - Great Gamay

100% Gamay from Cote de Brouilly, one of the ten cru appellations in the Beaujolais region of France.

75% of the wine comes from the 60+ year old vines of a southwest facing vineyard on the hillsides of Mont Brouilly and the remainder comes from the 45 year old vines of a second south facing parcel. Half the wine is aged in stainless steel while the other half is aged in large, neutral, very old oak barrels. It has just 2.7 g/L of residual sugar.

Sample submitted for review. The Stephane Aviron Cote de Brouilly is available for as low as $17. It is imported by Frederick Wildman and Sons LTD.

    From the bottle:

Our wines are all hand crafted by individual growers with whom we work on a daily basis throughout the year. From these talented and dedicated vignerons, I select every barrel individually to ensure authenticity and purity of expression in my wines. We are working hard to protect the heritage of great Beaujolais and its "crus". Your enjoyment is our compensation. Thank you.

    13% Alcohol

The 2018 Stephane Aviron Cote de Brouilly opens with a pretty typical Beaujolais aroma full of strawberry, a little spice and licorice and some of those signature bubble gum aromas.

Tasting the wine reveals it to be quite smooth and balanced with similar flavors to the nose. Featuring juicy berry fruit and well integrated spice this light to medium bodied wine is a very nice example of Beaujolais.

It ends dry and with decent length. Very drinkable, this is great slightly chilled.
