DOuro - Altitude- Freshness
At the edge of Murcas boundaries in Covelinhas, steep slopes form a valley where the wind whistles. It is from vineyards like these, north-facing at high altitudes, that this wine is produced. Crafted from the region's traditional grape varieties and partially aged in used French oak casks for 6 months, this is a fresh, versatile and food-friendly wine.
We're big fans of wines from Esporao here at Reverse Wine Snob, but we haven't reviewed this one since the 2011 vintage. Let's check it out.
The 2017 Esporao Quinta Dos Murcas Assobio Douro Red needs a bit of time to open up but once it does you'll find a fresh berry aroma with some light spice and herbal notes plus a little black tea and cola. It's quite harmonious.
Tasting the wine reveals it to be smooth and balanced with similar fruit flavors to the nose but they are more tart and juicy in the mouth. With light tannins and good acidity this is a fresh, medium-bodied blend made to drink now.
It ends dry and medium-long with a bit of dustiness. This is a solid wine for the price.
