A young, fresh and juicy Cabernet, we review the Trader Joe’s Reserve Columbia Valley Wahluke Slope Cabernet Sauvignon Lot 253.

Trader Joe's Reserve Wahluke Slope Cabernet Sauvignon Review

100% Cabernet Sauvignon (organically grown) from the Wahluke Slope, Columbia Valley, Washington. The wine spends an unspecified amount of time in oak.

This wine is available exclusively at Trader Joe’s and it sells for just $9.99.

From Trader Joe’s:

Nestled amidst the magnificent landscape of Washington’s Columbia Valley AVA, the Wahluke [wah-LUKE] Slope is well known for its magnificent red grape varietals. Its dry days, cool nights, and rocky soils offer ideal conditions for cultivating world-class grapes—and with the right precision and care, world-class grapes become world-class wines.

Trader Joe’s Reserve Wahluke Slope Cabernet Sauvignon is made with 100% organic Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. This Cab boasts a bouquet of red plum, cocoa, and rich earth. It’s initially smooth on the palate with notes of ripe fruit and minerality, accented with delicately spiced oak. The long finish is lifted by natural acidity and integrated tannins. This bolder red is a nice complement to the aromatics in a TJ’s Chicken Shawarma Bowl and a perfect match for Double Cream Brie.

The 2022 Trader Joe’s Reserve Columbia Valley Wahluke Slope Cabernet Sauvignon Lot 253 begins with aromas of plum and spicy dark fruit along with plenty of oak influence including some vanilla and chocolate.

Tasting reveals a soft, smooth mouthfeel plus sweet, dark, juicy fruit with oaky spice and more vanilla. It’s a bit disjointed, but if you enjoy a lot of oak influence in your Cab this will be right up your alley.

It ends dry, long, quite grippy and juicy. This is a young, fresh, juicy rendition of Cabernet with some not so well integrated oaky spice, but it’s still mostly worth the price. It wasn’t quite as good on day 2 however, so drink up day 1!
