Trader Joe's Reserve Napa Valley Petite Sirah - Value

By: Jon Thorsen Published: August 30, 2019 Last Updated: June 1, 2021

An excellent example of a variety that goes great with your weekend grilling plans, the Trader Joe's Reserve Napa Valley Petite Sirah Lot 116.

Trader Joe's Reserve Napa Valley Petite Sirah - Value

Petite Sirah from Napa Valley, California.

The Trader Joe's Reserve Napa Valley Petite Sirah Lot 116 is available exclusively at Trader Joe's and sells for $9.99. While Trader Joe's has had Petite Sirah in their Reserve line in the past, this one from Napa Valley appears to be new this year. The wine is vinted and bottled by Owl Ridge Wine Services which produces a wide range of private label wines.

    From the bottle:

Rich and juicy with blackberry jam and fig notes, hints of black pepper, anise and vanilla oak leading to a long and luscious finish.

    14.8% Alcohol

The 2017 Trader Joe's Reserve Napa Valley Petite Sirah Lot 116 begins super dark and inky in the glass just as you would expect from Petite Sirah, which is often used to beef up red blends. On the pleasing nose you'll find lots of dark fruit like plums, blackberry and more as well as hints of vanilla, anise, black pepper and a bit of earth. Taking a sip when first opened may be a bit of a letdown, but give it plenty of time to breathe! Once you do you'll discover lots of delicious fruit along with nice touches of spice, cola, vanilla, anise and even some streaks of minerality.

It might not be quite as big of a wine as I was expecting but it's still really, really good. I thoroughly enjoyed it although it was a different wine once it had some air versus when it was first opened. It ends dry and long with a slightly grippy finish. Petite Sirah is one of our favorite value varieties and this is a nice example and a fantastic price for Napa Valley fruit.
