Underwood Bubbles – Choose Your Refreshment

By: Jon Thorsen Last Updated: July 17, 2019

Bottle or can, it’s hard to go wrong with either the Underwood Bubbles or the Underwood Rosé Bubbles sparkling wines from Union Wine Company in Oregon.

Underwood Bubbles - Choose Your Refreshment

Samples submitted for review. Both wines have an SRP of $7 per 375ml can (half a traditional 750ml bottle) or $15 per bottle and can be found for as low as $6 per can or $12 per bottle. The bottle versions are closed with a bottle cap.

Underwood Bubbles - Choose Your Refreshment

First up is the Underwood The Bubbles, a blend of 40% Pinot Gris, 32% Pinot Noir and 28% Chardonnay from Willamette Valley (78%) and Applegate Valley (22%), Oregon. This sparkling wine is fermented in stainless steel and carbonated. It has 9.7 g/L of residual sugar.

From the can:

Union Wine Co. Brings the spirit and character of Oregon to wines you can put on your table everyday. We believe that the contents are more important than the container, that good wine should be able to go anywhere.

We love our wine, we just don’t drink it with our pinkies in the air.

Notes: Ripe citrus, tropical fruit and white flowers

10.9% Alcohol

The 2018 Underwood The Bubbles wine in a can begins with pleasing aromas of lemon, pear, honeysuckle and a little tropical fruit. Taking a sip reveals a crisp, tasty, nicely sweet wine with similar flavors to the nose and plenty of refreshing bubbles. It ends with a crisp, lip-smacking finish. Underwood also sent over the 2017 vintage in a bottle, which was similar but had a bit more residual sugar.

Next up is the Underwood Rosé Bubbles, a blend of 88% Pinot Noir, 10% Pinot Gris and 2% Chardonnay from Willamette Valley (95%) and Applegate Valley (5%), Oregon. This sparkling wine is fermented in stainless steel and carbonated. It has 9.4 g/L of residual sugar.

Underwood Rosé Bubbles - Choose Your Refreshment

From the bottle:

Here’s to getting through a Monday, an epic day at Mt. Hood, and everything in between. Inspired by the independent spirit and character of Oregon, we’ve created a bottle of bubbles to celebrate the big, the small, and the everyday accomplishments. Take time to raise a glass to life, no special occasion required.

Cheers the everyday!

Notes: Wild strawberry, fruit cocktail & tart cherry

10.9% Alcohol

The 2018 Underwood Rosé Bubbles wine in a can begins with pleasing aromas of strawberry, cherry and honey. The wine tastes quite refreshing and features similar flavors to the nose although they are not quite as sweet in the mouth as you might have been expecting. This would make a great poolside sipper. It ends with a crisp, medium length finish of lingering watermelon jolly rancher.

Underwood also sent the previous vintage in a bottle for this one and again it was similar but higher in residual sugar at 12 g/L. We like the trend of that number coming down a bit in the more recent vintages.
