Vite Colte La Luna e i Falo Barbera d’Asti Superiore - Excellent

Barbera from Piedmont, Italy. The wine is aged for 12 months in small oak barrels, 1/3 of which were new.

The grapes are selected from 60 hectares of vineyards that all participants in the "Superbarbera" project of the winery designed to showcase what Barbera can do in the land of Barolo.

Sample submitted for review. The wine has an SRP of $30 but an average price of $17 on wine-searcher, with a low of only $14.

    From the winery:

The Barbera d’Asti La Luna e i Falo stands out for being the fruit of a careful pre-selection process carried out on a 60-hectare winegrowing area, surrounded by Nizza Monferrato, Calamandrana, Agliano and Rocchetta Tanaro. From these vineyards, with slightly different soils and microclimates, Vite Colte has been able to create a wine with an extraordinary balance between structure and aromas.

    14.5% Alcohol

The 2017 Vite Colte La Luna e i Falò Barbera d’Asti Superiore DOCG begins with lots of beautiful dark berry fruit, perfumed floral notes and nice touches of licorice and vanilla. It's a lovely aroma and a great start.

It only takes one sip to know that this is juicy, delicious stuff. Full of rich, bright, concentrated fruit this smooth, full-bodied, balanced and delicious wine is a wonderful match with all kinds of Italian dishes. Silky yet firm tannins lead into the dry, very long finish. Excellent!
