KW Ranch Pinot Noir 2018 comes from the lower slopes along the eastern edge of the appellation. Black berries and cherry cola join undertones of menthol and wild herbs on an expressive nose. The palate highlights red licorice, black cherry and vanilla, with bright acidity and an earthy element, that merge into a long, structured finish that has lots of dark fruit.
KW Ranch is located in the heart of the Santa Lucia Highlands, southeast of McIntyre Vineyard and just northwest of Gary’s Vineyard. Planted to both Pinot Noir and Syrah in 2000 by Kirk Williams, the site features a well-exposed, gently-rolling hillside with gravely loam soils. Wines from KW Ranch tend to be intense and highly aromatic.

The 2018 Wrath KW Ranch Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir opens with attention-getting aromas of strawberry, cherry, cola, licorice and some lovely, assorted spice notes plus a little cranberry and rhubarb. It's a fantastic, harmonious start.
The wine tastes smooth, luscious and delicious with all the flavors from the nose combining seamlessly in the mouth. It offers great depth, beautiful structure and wonderful balance. With rich fruit, spice and a touch of earthiness, this one has it all!
It ends dry, quite long and a bit grippy with lingering juicy fruit. Gorgeous! It was just as good on day two.
