The bourbon barrel aged 1000 Stories Gold Rush Red is a blend of primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Zinfandel with small amounts of Petite Sirah and Merlot from California. The wine is aged in traditional French and American oak barrels before also spending time in a combination of new and used bourbon barrels. It has 5.2 g/L of residual sugar.

The California Gold Rush was a period of courage, bravado and curiosity. I craft Gold Rush Red with these characteristics in mind. The grapes used to blend this bold wine are carefully selected from the golden hills and valleys of California. It is finished in bourbon barrels, which complements this rich wine with notes of charred vanilla and dried herbs.

Ripe dark fruit, baking spice and vanilla all combine seamlessly in the very pleasing bouquet of the 2016 1000 Stories Gold Rush Red. Taking a sip reveals sweet fruit mixed with more spice and vanilla, touches of caramel and chocolate and even hints of smoke, earth and black pepper. It ends smooth and quite long with all the flavors from the palate lingering in the mouth for some time. The finish is where the bourbon barrel seems to have the most influence and it fits in perfectly, gently enhancing the oaky flavors.
