A decade later, we revisit a favorite bargain Pinot Noir pick, the Hahn California Pinot Noir.
Pinot Noir primarily from the Arroyo Seco appellation of Monterey County, California. The wine spends 7 months in 30% new French oak.

Nicky and Gaby Hahn established their namesake winery in 1980. Nestled in the majestic hills of Monterey County, today the family still owns and operates the winery and its six estate vineyards. Hahn wines are crafted in Nicky’s signature style for everyday enjoyment.
With inviting aromas of red cherry and rip strawberry this Pinot Noir has bright flavors of plum and black cherry. Best paired with roasted chicken, blackened salmon and mild cheeses.

Excellent Pinot Noir under $20 is a tough nut to crack but this bottle from Hahn has been a go-to for years, in fact the very first time we recommended it was the 2011 vintage.
The 2021 Hahn California Pinot Noir opens with pleasing aromas of strawberry, black cherry and a touch of cranberry plus some light touches of vanilla, licorice and cola.
The wine tastes rather simple but true to the variety, which is pretty darn respectable for just $12 a bottle. The medium-bodied wine features similar flavors to the nose with some added toasty oak in the mouth plus a soft smooth mouthfeel.
It ends dry and with good length. This is a solid Pinot Noir for the price.
