Avignonesi Vino Nobile di Montepulciano - Quite Good

By: Jon Thorsen Published: June 11, 2021 Last Updated: October 19, 2021

A smooth and super tasty Sangiovese, the Avignonesi Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.

Avignonesi Vino Nobile di Montepulciano - Quite Good

100% estate grown Sangiovese from vines 11-37 years old in Montepulciano, Tuscany, Italy. The wine spends 18 months in large Slavonian oak casks and oak barriques and is vegan friendly.

Sample submitted for review. The Avignonesi Vino Nobile di Montepulciano has an SRP of $30 and is available for as low as $18. 190,000 bottles were produced.

    From the winery:

The balanced weather conditions of this vintage, characterised by the right amount of all the elements, enabled us to make powerful, yet elegant wines. A mild and relatively dry winter was overthrown by a cold and wet spring. Summer was warm and sunny which compensated for the wet and cold spring. A cold September with Nordic winds allowed for the grapes to reach perfect maturity.

The wine shows garnet red hues, intense aromas of fresh, red berry fruit, such as cherry, pomegranate, sweet spices and Mediterranean herbs. On the palate the wine is well balanced, with generous pulp, seamless tannins and an endless finish.

    13.5% Alcohol

The 2016 Avignonesi Vino Nobile di Montepulciano begins with a lovely, enticing aroma full of dark berries, licorice, and floral notes plus a little mint and other spice.

Taking a sip reveals a smooth and super tasty wine with lots of rich, delicious, juicy, tart fruit. Featuring nice touches of spice throughout, firm tannins and good balance, this is some excellent Sangiovese.

It ends dry, chewy and very long and persistent with a touch of tobacco lingering underneath the fruit. This is quite good!

We also had a chance to taste the newly released 2017 Avignonesi Vino Nobile di Montepulciano which should end up with similar pricing to the 2016.

The aroma of this vintage is similar to the 2016 with a little cedar and vanilla too.

The wine tastes a tad oaky at this very young age but has a lot of potential. It features similar flavors to the 2016 with some cola and licorice and even a bit of citrus zest on the juicy fruit.

It ends dry, chewy and very long and persistent. Both vintages were just as good day 2.
