Cameron Hughes Red Mountain Red Blend - A Wine To Wow

By: Jon Thorsen Published: December 6, 2017 Last Updated: October 1, 2021

Good enough for a special occasion, cheap enough to drink every day!

Cameron Hughes Red Mountain Red Blend - A Wine To Wow

Mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with a small amount of Merlot and Syrah from the Red Mountain AVA in Washington. The wine is aged in 60% new French oak. Only 2,000 cases produced.

This review is brought to you by Cameron Hughes Wine.

The Cameron Hughes Red Mountain Red Blend Lot 575 has an SRP of $16 but is available for under $14 with today's special deal: Get 15% off your first order plus free shipping on 3+ bottles with the code SIPWINE15!

    From the bottle:

As a negociant (a.k.a. wine trader) with more than 25 years of experience in the business, I source ultra-premium wine from the world's best wine producing regions and sell it directly to you for a fraction of the price. Each Lot is produced in limited quantities, and when it's gone, it's gone. I stand by every bottle we produce and hope you love it as much as I do.

    14.1% Alcohol

We're big fans of Cameron Hughes wine, just take a look at the excellent, Bulk Buy rated Rogue Valley Pinot we highlighted a few weeks ago. Today we're back with a very special find from the tiny Red Mountain AVA which is completely within the Yakima Valley AVA in the Columbia Valley. It's 1,500 planted acres are full of prestigious producers, so much so that there's scarcely much wine under $30 coming out of this area, much less under $20.

The 2014 Cameron Hughes Red Mountain Red Blend Lot 575 is a bit oaky when first popped open but have no fears, give this wine an hour or so to really develop and you will be well rewarded! It begins with a fantastic deep aroma of blackberry laced with spice, cedar, mint and touches of chocolate and vanilla but be forewarned, you may have a hard time pulling your nose out of the glass. Taking a sip reveals a wonderfully smooth mouthfeel, lots of juicy and spicy dark fruit and nicely integrated oak adding leather and lingering chocolate notes. Some cola and a touch of minerality develop mid-palate and lead into the juicy chocolate covered cherry finish.

This ia a killer wine at this price! Good enough for a special occasion, cheap enough to drink every day. It is also a shoo-in for our list The Best Red Blends under $20.
