The best $6 you can spend at Costco? The Casa Santos Lima Red Blend Portugal.
An unspecified blend of native Portuguese varieties from Lisboa, Portugal. The wine is aged four months in oak barrels.
The Casa Santos Lima Red Blend Portugal has an SRP of $20 but is available at Costco for just $5.99 for a 750ml bottle and $14.99 for a 3L box. No Costco? It's also available elsewhere closer to $10. Imported by J. Oliveira Selections, Tri-Vin Imports, Inc.
It is believed that the origin of vines in the Portuguese territory goes back as far as 3000 B.C., having benefited from the contribute of several ancient civilizations that used to occupy these lands. What is undeniable is the tradition and impact that wine has given to Portugal along the centuries. A country with a vast variety of native grapes and incomparable skills to combine them the best way possible to produce quality wines. The "Red Blend Portugal" pays homage to the Portuguese producer's art to take the best out of each grape in order to create the perfect blend. This wine presents a nice ruby colour and a striking aromatic exuberance. Smooth and elegant, it offers delicious flavors of ripe red fruits well balanced with notes of wood from a four month ageing period in French and American oak barrels.

We've seen this wine mentioned numerous times in our Facebook group over the last couple months and it finally showed up at my Costco so I could check it out! It comes from the same producer as the Confidencial Reserva that was available a couple years ago at Costco; however, this is a lighter, softer, easier drinking but still delicious wine.
The 2017 Casa Santos Lima Red Blend Portugal begins with an attractive and savory aroma of ripe fruit and lots of sweet cherries plus spice, licorice and vanilla. The medium-bodied wine tastes smooth, soft and a bit sweet. It's loaded with assorted juicy berries on the palate plus a touch of citrus. It reminded me of a nice Beaujolais with a touch of bubblegum flavor that you often find in those wines. It ends dry and long with lingering tart fruit. This would be quite nice slightly chilled on a hot day.
