Today we've got another nice private label Cabernet from Alexander Valley in Sonoma, a prime spot for growing Cab. Just like the Kirkland Signature version from Costco we reviewed a few weeks ago, this one sells for just $10 which is a significant discount over what you normally find from this area. Let's check it out.
The 2017 Trader Joe's Reserve Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Lot 179 begins with a pleasing aroma of plum, oak, blackberry, black cherry, lots of vanilla and a little cedar and spice. The wine tastes plummy and not quite as oaky as it smells; in fact, it's quite fruit forward in the mouth. Smooth and easy to drink, this is a tasty wine. A nice bit of spice and vanilla come out on the mid-palate and lead into the long, dry, satisfying finish.
Overall I'd say it's not quite as oaky as the Kirkland Signature version but just like that one this is a pretty darn good deal for only $10.
