The 2023 Cecchi Chianti Classico Storia di Famiglia begins with a very deep, inviting aroma of raspberry, ripe red and black cherry, leather, spice and flowers along with a little iron-like minerality. It’s a great start.

Slightly tart and juicy berry fruit leads the way when tasting this medium-bodied wine which is smooth and easy to drink yet filled with flavor and interesting edges including some minerality. The leather and spice notes from the nose make an appearance as well. It’s maybe not quite as refined as the Riserva but still quite delicious, just be sure to give it plenty of time to open up.

Slightly chewy tannins lead into the dry and very long lasting finish where touches of tobacco and vanilla linger under all the tart, juicy fruit along with a touch of earthiness and minerality. It was just as good on day 2. This is quite impressive!
