Chateau des Rochers Castillon Cotes de Bordeaux Review

By: Jon Thorsen Published: August 22, 2022 Last Updated: September 1, 2022

Quite the find at Costco for just $6.99, we review the Chateau des Rochers Castillon Cotes de Bordeaux.

Chateau des Rochers Castillon Cotes de Bordeaux Review

Merlot from organically grown grapes in the Castillon Cotes de Bordeaux region of France. The wine has 3.2 g/L residual sugar.

This wine has an SRP of $29 but is available at Costco for an incredible $6.99. You can check for other retailers here. It is imported by Misa Imports.

    From the winery:

The AROLDI Family has been cultivating the vines of Château des Rochers for three generations.

On the vineyard in AOC, Côtes de Castillon renamed Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux, our vines are installed on 14 ha in Belvès de Castillon and Saint Philippe d'Aiguilhe. These villages are located on the clay-limestone hills extending those of Saint Emilion.

Vintage after Vintage, we give you the best of ourselves. With Mother Nature, we offer you a wine expressing all the subtleties of this preserved terroir.

Since 2002, we practice organic farming controlled by Ecocert and the following year bio-dynamics certified by Demeter.

At all stages of its development, from the vine to the winemaking, the same balance between passion and respect defines Château des Rochers as a wine that meets your requirements.

    14% Alcohol

The 2018 Chateau des Rochers Castillon Cotes de Bordeaux opens with a pleasing aroma of dark fruit and spice plus a little vanilla, cola and licorice.

Upon first pop and pour it's apparent the wine is quite young at this point. It's very oaky and rather tannic even after being open for a couple hours but eventually it does opens up so have patience!

Dark fruit, well-integrated spice and a little tobacco combine quite well with that round, smooth Merlot mouthfeel on this wine. You don't normally age a $6.99 wine, but you definitely should with this one -- or at least give it several hours to breathe if you drink it now.

It ends dry and long and was slightly better on day two.
