Another sweet and tasty Italian red blend from Aldi, we review the Elettra Red Blend.
A blend of Primitivo and Negroamaro from Puglia, Italy.
The wine spends a short amount of time in oak barrels and has 18 g/L of residual sugar.
The Elettra Red Blend is available exclusively at Aldi in the US and sells for $12.99. It is made by Provinco Italia and imported by Prestige Beverage Group.
From the bottle:
Elettra (Shining Star)
In the deep blue of the firmament shines Electra, radiant star of the Taurus Constellation. This wine is dedicated to those who gaze upwards and are moved by the miracle of the universe.
A classic red vinification, with maceration on skins to extract color and aromas. After fermentation, the wine is aged for several months in oak barrels. You can sense its delicious fruity bouquet with notes of blackberry, cherries and some mint. On the palate the wine has a perfect balance between velvety tannins and fruity notes, and a persistent finish.
It pairs perfectly with red or spiced meats, as well as soft and savory cheeses.
Best when served at room temperature.
14.5% Alcohol
The 2021 Elettra Red Blend opens with sweet aromas of ripe dark fruit plus a little spice.
Tasting the wine reveals that it is indeed sweet, but also smooth and savory. It also features a velvety mouthfeel, lots of deep, rich, dark fruit and nice touches of spice throughout.
It ends dry, and a bit grippy with lasting sweet fruit, almost trending more towards dried fruit notes.
Overall this wine is a bit sweeter than we prefer but I'm guessing this is just what a lot of Aldi shoppers are looking for and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that!
If you like either the Grande Alberone Rosso or the Ronco di Sassi Vino Rosso that Aldi also offers, then this wine will be right up your alley.
