Learn more about our winery direct INSIDER DEALS here.Welcome back to one of our favorite deals of all-time, the perfect 10 Ess & See Mataro and perfect 10 Ess & See Tempranillo.
Running this site we have the enviable position of being able to try many wines that are not widely available. Such was the case with the Mataro (Mourvedre) in today's offer when we first tried the 2013 vintage several years ago. At the time we lamented:
Living in Minnesota and being from Scandinavian descent, I was immediately drawn to the eye-catching Viking-like label on this wine. As I popped it open and poured a glass I was hoping that the wine inside would at least not be a total let-down, as happens far too frequently with catchy labels. What I found instead was an stunning example of Mourvedre coming from a place you wouldn't normally expect. At only 100 cases made it may be near impossible to find this wine, but if you can it is certainly one you want to snap up, even at the SRP. [Emphasis added]
Fast forward several years and we are absolutely delighted and overjoyed to turn the near impossible into a reality by bringing you this wine along with one other that might even be more remarkable.
Today's deal represents everything good about our Insider Deals and the reason we started offering them - stunning wines that are extremely hard to find yet are offered at ridiculously low prices.
Really the only problem with today's offer is that the quantities at this point are extremely limited.
We gave both of these wines Perfect 10 Taste ratings. Both are from Five O-Clock Somewhere Wines and made by legendary winemaker Steve Grimley, based in McLaren Vale, Australia. Here's how he describes the Ess & See project:
Our aim is to create a collection of wines that are interesting, purposeful and honest in a dare-to-be-great environment.
Today's duo fulfills this goal in spades. After all, when's the last time you had a single vineyard Mourvedre or Tempranillo from Australia?
Really, I can't say enough good things about what we're offering here today. These are the types of wines that you have a bottle of once upon a time, yet you never forget -- and always hope for another. Read on for our full reviews, but to put it simply - snap these up people!
Neither wine appears to be currently available in the US, but when they have been they have sold for around $32 a bottle.
Today's 4-pack deal gets you two bottles of the 2016 Ess & See Mataro plus two bottles of the 2014 Ess & See Tempranillo for $87.99 plus $5 for shipping. That's a discount of $10 a bottle and a total discount of 37% after factoring in the additional savings from our $5 shipping.
Buy multiples and you save even more since you'll never pay more than $5 shipping, no matter how many 4-packs you buy. And even more important than the substantial discount is the fact that you're likely never to find these wines again, anywhere in the US. Get them while you can.
This 4-pack deal is available to ship to the following states: AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, FL, GA, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MT, NC, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, VA, VT, WA, WV, WI and WY. (These states are dependent on the individual licenses of the offering winery. Future deals may have more or less states available.)
This limited time, winery direct offer ends Wednesday 5/18/2022 at noon (PT) unless it sells out sooner.

First up we've got the 2016 Ess & See Mataro from the Blewitt Springs sub region in McLaren Vale. It is aged in older French barriques for 10 months and is vegan friendly. Just 1,425 bottles were made (about 119 cases).
From the winery:
This is a near flawless interpretation of how good medium bodied wines from the Blewitt Springs area can be. All sorts of warmed spices and floral notes explode out of the glass and the tannins bolt to the sides of your mouth where the acid turns up the dial and tells your brain hold on here. I could, have and will continue to drink this all day." - Steve Grimley

The 2016 Ess & See Mataro begins with some amazing spice and minty herbal and garrigue like notes on the fabulously enticing nose.
Tasting the medium-bodied wine reveals it to be super silky smooth with lots of ripe red berries and an earthy/woodsy edge. Wonderful spice notes kick in mid-palate and intensify into the finish.
The minty herbal notes from the nose also continue underneath and resolve on the long, dry, delicious and dusty finish. Aged to perfection, even Thor himself would set down his hammer to drink this one. Skol!
Next up we’ve got the 2014 Ess & See Tempranillo which was aged in older French oak for 12 months and is also vegan friendly. 2,484 bottles were produced (207 cases). Wine Enthusiast gave it 92 points back in 2019, but we think it has gotten even better since then.
From the winery:
The fruit was grown in a small vineyard in the middle of nowhere, east of Adelaide but neither Barossa or Adelaide Hills. So this wine sits under the catch-all stamp of South Australia, though this is as much a single site wine as it gets. The site is significantly cooler than others around it but the grapes ripen early and the unique climate has helped with flavour development and colour. For us this wine emulates the allure of great Rioja. The palate has a textured savoury side with a genuine liveliness.
Expect to see a whole line of development from us here, pushing the boundaries of what Aussie wine can be, but always, always in the most tasty and gratifying way.
"I can't bear stereotypes and if this wine has any control over the way it's perceived, it's on my side. Its subtle layering of femininity is expressed flawlessly via the perfume, elegance and structure, yet somewhere mid-flight it takes off in a completely contradictory direction, challenging expectation and ensuring you remain somewhat restless in your chair." - Steve.

The 2014 Ess & See Tempranillo begins with a very enticing aroma of raisiny dark fruit along with some strawberry and raspberry, cola, spice, a little dark chocolate and more.
It only takes one sip to know this is capital D Delicious. Smooth with similar flavors to the nose this is extraordinarily well balanced. Featuring juicy fruit with very well integrated spice notes that last all the way through the end, this is simply fantastic.
Fine tannins and a touch of earthiness lead into the dry, quite long and lingering finish that resolves into some light earthy, tobacco notes. I love it and its even better on day 2, this is really special.
