The 2016 crop levels were small and deliciously concentrated due to the drought and small set in the spring. Juicy layers of ripe plum, blackberry, and clove, along with hints of smoky caramel, vanilla, and graphite characterize this wine. With delicate oak and velvety tannins, the juiciness of the entry evolves into a lush, silky textured finish.
The famous Pickberry Vineyard on the North slope of Sonoma Mountain was first planted in the 1980's and has produced stellar Bordeaux fruit for many producers. The site is just above the morning fog belt that sweeps in from the West and has just enough afternoon exposure to ripen the fruit without too much Western exposure to the hot afternoon sun. We began to farm it in 2012 and that same year began to purchase 5 tons of fruit every year to make a stellar Bordeaux blend. The wine is a constant Gold Medal, Double-Gold, Best of Class winner at the yearly Sonoma County Harvest Fair.
Founded in 2008 by Ned and Erika Hill, and named for the street Ned's father grew up on, La Prenda Vineyards Management is now a fixture of Sonoma agriculture. We farm for wineries such as Schug, Roche Family, Bartholomew Estate, Bennett Valley Cellars, Parmelee-Hill and our label Fifth Hill Wines. In 2013 we launched our wine collection to the world and have continued to develop our craft with the help of our award winning Winemaker Mike Cox.

The 2016 Fifth Hill Pickberry Bordeaux Blend opens with a wonderful nose full of dark berry fruit and well integrated spice and licorice. Add in some notes of smoke, vanilla, chocolate and graphite and this is love!
Tasting the wine reveals more of the same which is a very good thing! Big, juicy and delicious with a smooth and lush mouthfeel, this one just keeps getting better and better the more air it has.
It ends dry, very long and very satisfying. It might have even been a bit better on day 2.
