The Gran Toqui line represents the wine of the Great Chef, the grapes come from the best vineyards of the family, selected especially by the winemaker. The maceratations are long, thus looking for the greatest possible extraction and the unique complexity that the Alto Cachapoal Valley can offer. The wines have the well-deserved rest in French and American oak for 12-14 months, so that they can soon rest bottled at controlled temperature.

Suggested Food Pairings: Roast lamb, angus rib with rosemary, pork loin with bittersweet sauce, fresh sausage risotto, bolognese polenta, carbonara pasta.

Less than 4 g/L residual sugar. 13-14% Alcohol

The first half of today's deal is two bottles of the 2014 Gran Toqui Syrah.

The 2014 Casas del Toqui Gran Toqui Syrah opens with pleasing aromas of blackberry, black cherry, cola, spice, graphite, licorice, mint and more. There is a lot to discover here as you sniff and swirl so take your time!

It only takes one sip to realize this is a balanced, savory, really delicious and wonderful example of Syrah. If you're like us and sensitive to the pyrazine notes found in so many Chilean Cabs and Carmenere then check this wine out. It's lovely with no green notes to be found anywhere. It also features a smooth mouthfeel and good depth of flavor on the juicy fruit plus well-integrated touches of spice and dried herbs. All the flavors from the nose also show up in the mouth along with touches of chocolate and black pepper. This is drinking fantastically right now.

It ends dry, long and savory and was just as good on day 2.

The second half of today's deal is two bottles of the 2016 Gran Toqui Syrah.

The 2016 Casas del Toqui Gran Toqui Syrah opens with a very pleasing aroma of dark fruit (blackberry, black cherry and a touch of prunes) plus licorice, a little cinnamon spice and cola and just a hint of a smoked meat and graphite note.

Tasting the wine reveals it is definitely a bit meatier than the 2014 but still smooth and very tasty. It has great depth and features loads of very juicy and ripe dark fruit along with continuing touches of spice. This one is also drinking wonderfully now but might even have a couple years before it peaks. It's a great contrast to the 2014 and another lovely wine.

It ends dry, long, savory and a bit grippy. It was just as good day 2.
