The 2016 Grand Vin de Reignac is 67% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Cabernet Franc from the 40-year old estate vines of Chateau de Reignac. The wine is aged in French oak barrels (50% new) for 19 months.

Château de REIGNAC is ideally situated at the confluence of the Dordogne and Garonne Rivers (the “Entre Deux Mers”). REIGNAC offers a unique quality, that of reuniting the best types of terroir of both the Right and the Left Banks in a single estate.

The original Château was built by Seigneur Baude de Peyron in the 16th century. Remodeled in the 18th and 19th centuries. A remarkable greenhouse was designed by Gustave EIFFEL, the man who created the tower that bears his name in Paris. Yves and Stephanie Vatelot, purchased REIGNAC in 1990 and have worked continuously ever since to restore the state to its former glory while introducing numerous innovations. The very talented Michel Rolland is their consulting oenologist.

The 2016 Grand Vin de Reignac opens with beautiful aromas of black cherry, licorice and spice plus various other touches like tobacco and mint. It's a harmonious and very enticing start.
Smooth and plush, this full-bodied wine is just lovely in the mouth. Slightly tannic with similar flavors to the nose, this is simply delicious.
It ends dry, quite long and a bit grippy and chewy. It is aged wonderfully right now but also still has plenty of life ahead of it and probably even a little bit more improvement in its future. This is the complete package right here and a great example of Bordeaux.
