The 2016 Hess Select Pinot Noir begins with notes of cherry, raspberry, spice, a touch of vanilla and a bit of an earthy tomato plant aroma as well. It's an attractive beginning to this well-made Pinot Noir. Tasting reveals a smooth, velvety mouthfeel, good acidity and tasty flavors of red cherry Sweet Tart candy, spice, cola and more. Sweet spice notes lead into the dry finish of lingering cherry vanilla cola. Dependable and delicious Pinot Noir well under $20 isn't always an easy thing to find but this one rises to the challenge ably.
