Learn more about our winery direct INSIDER DEALS here. We’ve been fans of the Sierra Foothills for years – it’s a fantastic spot for Reverse Wine Snobs to find value – and today we have three excellent reds from the fine folks at Andis Wines:
Painted Fields is an expression of the hard work behind Andis Wines critically acclaimed winemaking team, led by consultants Philippe Melka and Maayan Koschitzky; in partnership with viticulturist and winemaker, Mark Fowler and Lorenzo Muslia. All with one mission in mind. To craft unique wines that cultivate a distinct sense of place. A tribute to the land’s heritage and the visionary grape growers who originally planted roots on the diverse soils of the Sierra Foothills. All our wines are Estate Produced and Bottled.
We’re happy to welcome them back with new vintages of two wines we’ve offered previously (to much acclaim), plus a third wine that might be our favorite of the bunch. Here’s what’s included in today’s 3-Pack:

From the winery:
2022 Painted Fields Curse of Knowledge Cabernet Sauvignon, Sierra Foothills
Curse of Knowledge strives to change perceptions of Sierra Foothills wine. Our high-quality, well-balanced Cabernet Sauvignon is created by blending Cabernet Franc and Merlot. It shows an intense ruby color that will captivate your senses, along with a sensational bouquet of dried violet, black cherry, fresh herbs, and cocoa powder. The velvety tannins create a generous and round, balanced mid-palate, followed by a lingering finish of dark berries and black licorice. Enjoy now to experience the brightness of the wine, or age it in your cellar to enhance its flavors.

And now on to our review:
The 2022 Painted Fields Curse of Knowledge Cabernet Sauvignon from Andis Wines begins with an enticing aroma full of dark fruit, plenty of licorice, violets, dried herbs, spice, cocoa, cola, cedar, mint and even more!
Tasting reveals a delicious wine with a smooth mouthfeel and good depth on the fantastic fruit. It features similar touches as the nose with lots of licorice, more spice, more dried herbs, more cocoa and more cola.
This one slaps you in the face with the delicious, deep fruit flavors right from the first pop and pour. It balances out even more as it has some time in the glass with all the other components playing a bigger part. And despite all the sweet tasting fruit this is a very dry wine with less than a half of gram of sugar in the entire bottle!
It ends dry, juicy and grippy on the extremely long, mouthwatering, fantastic finish. It was just as good on day 2. We put this one at the high end of our 9 Taste Rating at 92-93 points. What a treat! You don’t want to miss this one.

Up next we have the 2022 Painted Fields Old Vine Zinfandel. You will receive 1 bottle in today’s 3-pack.
From the winery:
2022 Painted Fields Old Vine Zinfandel, Sierra Foothills
The wine is a tribute to the farmers who have held on to Zinfandel vineyards for decades and, in some cases, for over a century. The wine is made from various old vineyards in the Sierra Foothills region, carefully selected to create an elegant red wine similar to the ones produced in the early days before Zinfandel became a jammy fruit bomb. It is a well-balanced, layered, and seamless wine that offers tons of fresh blackberry and raspberry flavors with a bracing texture of fine-grained tannins and bright acidity.
Blend: 90% Zinfandel, 5% Barbera & 5% Petite Sirah
Vineyards: Andis Estate, Old Massoni Ranch, Renwood Ranch, Di Stasio, Esola Vineyard
Harvest Date: From September 2 to October 8
Soils / Elevation: Granitic, and Sandy Loam, Between 1400 ft & 1800 ft

And now on to our review:
The 2022 Painted Fields Old Vine Zinfandel by Andis Wines opens with a lovely aroma of licorice, spice and everything nice! Ripe, dark and even some raisiny fruit plus anise and lots of other interesting secondary touches make for an attractive bouquet.
It only takes one sip to determine that this is super yum! I love it. This is a great example of Zinfandel with good depth, juicy ripe fruit and plenty of spice plus licorice and lots of Zin character. This is BBQ sauce’s best friend.
It’s wonderfully flavorful but not sweet at all with only 1.2 g/L of residual sugar and it gets even better as it has time to breathe.
It ends dry and quite long with lasting juicy fruit and spice. It’s just as good, if not even slightly better, on day two where it developed a bit more depth and wonderful balance. We put this one at the high end of our 9 Taste Rating as well at 92-93 points.

And finally we have the 2022 Painted Fields Sierra Cotes Syrah-Grenache-Mourvedre. You will receive 1 bottle in today’s 3-pack.
From the winery:
2022 Painted Fields Sierra Côtes Syrah-Grenache-Mourvèdre, Sierra Foothills
Sierra Côtes, meaning the “Slopes of Sierra,” is an excellent representation of the mountain fruit cultivated throughout our wine region. The region experiences hot days and cooler nights, creating a perfect Mediterranean microclimate for delicate Rhone-style grapes like Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvèdre. This climate allows the grapes to ripen ideally on the vine while retaining their acidity. The wine exhibits spicy notes of licorice, nutmeg, and crushed granite alongside a juicy yet briskly balanced flavor marked by a mineral lift.
Blend: 40% Syrah, 30% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre
Vineyards: Andis Estate, Rancho Victoria, Starfield, Bailey, Kapela
Harvest Date: From September 2 to October 8
Soils / Elevation: Granitic, Sandy Loam, and Volcanic Between 1400 ft & 3200 ft

And now on to our review:
The 2022 Painted Fields Sierra Cotes Syrah-Grenache-Mourvedre opens with a very pleasing aroma of savory dark berry fruit like black cherry, blackberry and raspberry plus nicely integrated spice and herbs along with some floral notes like violets and lavender. It’s quite an attractive start.
The wine tastes smooth and is VERY easy to drink with similar flavors to the nose. We love that it is loaded with sweet tasting, tart, juicy fruit but no residual sugar. It also has plenty of acidity, good balance and soft tannins that add some nice structure. This is quite enjoyable!
It ends dry and very long on the mouthwatering finish and was just as good if not even a bit better on day 2. We put this at the high end of our 9 Taste Rating at 92-93 points.
Cheers,
Jon

Best comment: I wished I ordered more. The Zinfandel was the tastiest and a pleasant surprise (as a normal Cab drinker).
Very nice balanced wines from area I lived in and love. Enjoyed Sierra Cotes so much ordered more directly from Andis.
